Moving Spaces is a multidisciplinary showcase celebrating the creative achievements of senior students in the Visual Multimedia Arts programmes within the Department of Art and Music at the University of South Africa. The exhibition features artworks by both Honours and final-level BA Visual Multimedia Art students, offering audiences an engaging encounter with fresh artistic voices and varied perceptions.

The exhibition explores a broad range of concepts stemming from personal, social, and collective experiences. The title, Moving Spaces, symbolizes transformation and fluidity, both in thought and in artistic expression, encouraging viewers to reflect on how visual art can question conventions, challenge perceptions, and shift ways of seeing.

Through sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, embroidery, mixed media, animation, and video, students investigate themes such as imagined landscapes, social commentary, and identity. The exhibition invites contemplation on the dynamic relationship between the individual and society, the physical and emotional environment, and the visible and the unseen.

Curated by Dr. Ania Krajewska, Mr. Kabelo Maja, and Mr. Andrew Smith, the exhibition underscores UNISA’s commitment to fostering innovative and socially responsive art practices. It also highlights the Department’s dedication to equipping emerging artists with the conceptual and technical tools needed to navigate contemporary creative landscapes.
